Charleston Southern women’s tennis falls to South Carolina Gamecocks

Charleston Southern University’s women’s tennis team played against the University of South Carolina on Sunday morning, marking their second match against a Southeastern Conference opponent over the weekend. The Gamecocks secured a 4-0 victory over the Buccaneers.

South Carolina won the doubles point by claiming victories on courts two and three. On the top court, Charleston Southern’s Marina Skegro and Carlota Farrés Carreter were trailing 5-3 to Kaitlyn Carnicella and Taylor Goetz when the match was abandoned.

In singles play, South Carolina clinched the overall win with straight-set victories on the lower courts. Jane Dunyon defeated Camila Molina Barranco 6-1, 6-0, while Jana Stojanova beat Carle Botha 6-0, 6-1. The deciding point came from Lauren Friedman’s 6-2, 6-2 win over Amike Botha.

Some Charleston Southern players showed competitive form before their matches were halted. Carlota Farrés Carreter won her first set against Sara Borkop 6-2 and was trailing in the second set when play stopped. Marina Skegro and Brenda Yoris were each behind by a single break at 6-4, 2-1 in their respective unfinished matches.
