Charleston Southern University’s women’s tennis team achieved its first win of the Spring 2026 season, defeating Wofford 4-3 in a home match on Friday. The victory followed opening weekend matches against two SEC opponents.

The Buccaneers started strong in singles competition. Carlota Farres Carreter secured a win over Ella Suk with scores of 6-2, 6-1 on court three. Freshman Amike Botha contributed with her first collegiate victory, winning 7-5, 6-0 against Grace Stout at the fifth position. Graduate Assistant Coach Amila Jusufbegovic commented on Botha’s achievement: “I’m very proud of Amike getting her first ever college win today. It is always very special to see the freshmen helping the team.”

At the top singles spot, Marina Skegro overcame Wofford’s Grace Agster in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. Brenda Yoris sealed the team’s overall win by defeating Quinn Bernthal 7-6 (7-1), 6-2 at No. 2 singles.

In doubles play, Charleston Southern lost the opening point to Wofford. The duo of Skegro and Farres Carreter were ahead in their match when doubles play concluded but did not finish.

Coach Jusufbegovic reflected on the team’s performance and upcoming schedule: “Today’s win helps give our team confidence heading into our next event. I’m very happy and proud of the girls and the work they have been putting in.”

The Buccaneers will travel to Jacksonville, Florida for their next matches at University of North Florida on February 13th and against Florida A&M on February 14th.
