Charleston Southern University’s women’s track and field team set a new school record in the 4×400 meter relay at the Virginia Tech Doc Hale Invite held on Saturday in Blacksburg, Virginia. The relay team, consisting of Caroline Aslerin, Grenisha Thomas, Brenda du Toit, and Maya Clark, finished with a time of 3:41.29. This performance not only broke the school record but also ranks as the fourth-fastest time in conference history.
In addition to their success in the relay, Charleston Southern’s distance medley relay team—composed of Freya Buglass, Barbara de Kock, Charlize Antia, and Lucy McNamara—completed their event in 12:04.95. This result is now recorded as the fourth-fastest in school history for that discipline.
Other notable performances included Danea Niles and Chloe-Mae Wilks competing in the 200 meters with times of 25.79 seconds and 26.46 seconds respectively. In shot put events, Zemaya Carson achieved a season-best throw of 14.11 meters while Yassine Kamara also marked a personal best with a throw of 14.03 meters. Kamara’s effort moves her to fourth place in Charleston Southern’s record books for shot put.
The Buccaneers are scheduled to compete next at the Tyron Mid-Winter Invitational in Mill Spring, North Carolina from February 13 to February 14. The team will then return to the same venue for the Big South Championships from February 27 through February 28.
