Charleston woman charged with murder after Johns Island homicide

The Charleston Police Department is investigating a homicide that took place in the Twelve Oaks neighborhood on Fenwick Allee Drive, Johns Island. On January 2, 2026, officers responded to a call at approximately 5:30 a.m. regarding a deceased adult male at a residence on Fenwick Hall Allee. After an investigation with the Charleston County Coroner’s office, it was determined that the death resulted from homicide.

Detectives found that the victim had been physically assaulted by his girlfriend several days before during an argument. The assault led to internal injuries causing the victim’s death. As a result, Chelsea Ann McDaniel, age 37 and from Charleston, has been charged with murder and is currently held at the Al Cannon Detention Center. The coroner’s office will release the victim’s name.
