The College of Charleston women’s basketball team secured a 88-78 win over Towson on Friday night at SECU Arena. The Cougars improved their record to 21-4 overall and 13-1 in conference play, while Towson fell to 14-12 and 7-7.
Charleston trailed by 12 points at halftime, with Towson leading 45-33. In the second half, the Cougars outscored the Tigers by a margin of 55-33. Taryn Barbot led Charleston’s comeback with a season-high 36 points, marking her ninth career game scoring at least 30 points and her third such performance this season. She also contributed five rebounds and three steals.
Taylor Barbot added 16 points along with five rebounds and five assists. Tyja Beans scored 13 points and collected seven rebounds. Grace Ezebilo recorded her fourth consecutive double-double with 19 rebounds and 15 points. This marked Ezebilo’s seventh double-double of the season, her twentieth game with double-digit rebounds, and she set a new program record for single-season rebounds in the Division I era with a total of 310 boards.
Charleston made use of free throws, converting on 24 attempts at an accuracy rate of nearly 86 percent. The Cougars outrebounded Towson by a margin of 50 to 32 and outscored them in the paint by a wide margin, finishing ahead in that category by forty points. Charleston shot just under 45 percent from the field while holding Towson to less than 37 percent shooting.
Taryn Barbot reached another milestone during the game, scoring her 1,536th point as a Cougar to move into eighth place on Charleston’s all-time scoring list.
The Cougars will next play William & Mary on February 27 in Charleston, South Carolina. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m., with streaming available via FloCollege through links provided on cofcsports.com.
