The College of Charleston women’s basketball team will play its final home game of the regular season against Stony Brook on Thursday night at TD Arena. The matchup also marks senior night, with the program set to honor graduate student Chynell Mitchell, redshirt senior Sophia Tougas, senior Marissa Brown, and student manager Katie Campbell.

Charleston enters the contest with a 22-5 overall record and a 14-2 mark in Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) play. The Cougars have already secured at least a share of the CAA Regular Season Championship and need one more win in their last two games to claim the outright title. Alternatively, a Stony Brook loss in either of its final two games would also give Charleston sole possession of first place and the top seed for the upcoming CAA Tournament.

Head coach Robin Harmony is in her seventh season leading Charleston. Since taking over in April 2019, Harmony has guided the Cougars to three consecutive 20-win seasons and recently achieved her 117th win at the school. “In her most recent season, Harmony led the Cougars to their winningest season in D1 program history with 25 wins. The Cougars advanced to the semifinals of the CAA conference tournament and the Super 16 in the WNIT after earning their first postseason victory ever on their home court,” according to information provided by Charleston athletics.

This year’s team reached several milestones, including matching its highest number of CAA wins with 14 and securing its third straight season with at least 20 victories—a first for Charleston since joining Division I. Earlier this season, Charleston earned a notable non-conference victory over Florida State, marking its second consecutive year defeating a Power Four opponent and its first win over an ACC team since beating Clemson in 2009.

Charleston is currently ranked ninth in the latest College Insider Mid-Major Top-25 poll and sits at No. 106 in NET rankings and No. 121 according to Torvik metrics.

Key players include Taryn Barbot, who was named CAA Preseason Player of the Year and is averaging 19.6 points per game this season. Barbot has won five CAA Player of the Week awards this year alone. “Barbot was just one of 25 athletes named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Watch List, which recognizes the best mid-major player in the country,” as noted by Charleston officials.

Other standouts are Grace Ezebilo—currently fourth nationally in offensive rebounds per game (4.7) and sixth in total rebounds per game (12.0)—and Taylor Barbot, who is among only 23 players nationwide to record a triple-double this season.

Stony Brook arrives with a conference record of 12-4 (17-12 overall), tied for second place in league standings. The Seawolves are led by junior guard Janay Brantley (13 points per game) and graduate guard Diaka Berete (11.4 points per game). Stony Brook is coming off home wins against Hampton and Elon but holds a road record of just four wins against nine losses.

Charleston holds a historical disadvantage against Stony Brook with only one win in five meetings; however, that lone victory came at home during their last matchup in January 2025.

Thursday’s game will be open to all fans free of charge, with live coverage available via FloCollege streaming service as well as live statistics on cofcsports.com.

The women’s basketball program will also celebrate its varsity team’s upcoming fiftieth anniversary throughout next season with features on past players published on its official website.

Following Thursday’s contest, Charleston will conclude its regular season schedule on Saturday at N.C. A&T before heading into postseason play.
