Charleston women’s tennis defeats Nicholls State in road sweep

The College of Charleston women’s tennis team secured a 7-0 victory over Nicholls State on Saturday in Thibodaux, Louisiana. The Cougars improved their season record to 2-3, while Nicholls State suffered its first loss and moved to 3-1.

Charleston began the match by winning all three doubles courts. Jaiden McKee and Isabella De Luise took court three with a 6-1 win. Oziera Ahmad and Riley Trinkle earned a 6-2 result at the No. 2 position, and Sia Cariov paired with Francesca Salvato for a 6-3 victory on court one.

In singles play, Marra Bruce won in position No. 4 with a score of 6-0, 6-1. Olivia Bull achieved her first collegiate singles win by defeating her opponent on court six, 6-1, 6-1. Riley Trinkle also recorded her first collegiate singles victory with a straight-set win (6-2, 6-1) in position No. 5.

Oziera Ahmad added another point for Charleston by winning her match in position No. 2 (6-2, 6-1). Jaiden McKee was victorious on court three with scores of 7-5, 6-2. Sia Cariov completed the sweep for the Cougars after defeating Paulina Villegas in slot No. 1 (6-2, 6-7 [5], 10-7).

The order of finish for doubles was courts three, two, then one; for singles it was positions four, six, five, two, three and one.

Charleston will next face New Orleans tomorrow afternoon at noon Eastern Time.
