The College of Charleston women’s tennis team secured a 4-3 win over Presbyterian at the Templeton Center Tennis Courts on Wednesday. This victory marks Charleston’s seventh consecutive win against Presbyterian and makes them the first team to defeat the Blue Hose on their home courts this season.
“It’s always great to get a win,” said head coach Angelo Anastopoulo. “PC played very well today and I want to give them a lot of credit. We were able to pull out a close win this afternoon, and we’re excited to host Nebraska for our home opener on Friday.”
Charleston began the match by winning all three doubles courts. Oziera Ahmad and Riley Trinkle won 6-1 on court two, Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato took court one with a 6-2 result, while Harper Santos and Saige Severance also posted a 6-2 victory on court three.
In singles play, Marra Bruce gave Charleston an early lead with a straight-set win (7-5, 6-2) on court four. Presbyterian responded with a victory in slot six before Ahmad extended Charleston’s advantage by winning her match (6-2, 7-5) on court two. Presbyterian narrowed the gap again with a three-set win in slot one, but Salvato clinched the overall match for Charleston after prevailing in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 6-4) on court three.
Presbyterian added another point by taking court five in three sets, finalizing the score at 4-3 for Charleston.
The Cougars will next face Nebraska at Turner Tennis Center for their home opener scheduled for Friday, February 20 at 1 p.m.
