Charleston women’s tennis falls 4-0 to Coastal Carolina on April 8

The College of Charleston women’s tennis team lost 4-0 to Coastal Carolina at the Stevens Tennis Complex on April 8. The Cougars now hold a record of 13-7 overall and 5-2 in conference play, while the Chanticleers improve to 13-4 and match Charleston’s conference record.

This match is significant as both teams entered with identical conference records, making it an important contest for standings within their respective conferences.

Coastal Carolina secured the doubles point after winning matches on courts one and three. In singles play, the Chanticleers clinched victories on courts four, one, and six to secure the sweep. Oziera Ahmad of Charleston won her first set in slot No. 2 but did not finish her match as well as those on courts three and five.

Doubles results included Brunelle Kouam and Francisca Laundes from Coastal Carolina defeating Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato from Charleston by a score of 6-4. Sarah Clark and Diana Zuba (CC) also defeated Jaiden McKee and Saige Severance (COFC) with a score of 6-1. The Ahmad/Trinkle vs. Mitrache/Rogers doubles match was unfinished at a tied score.

In singles action, Diana Zuba (CC) beat Sia Cariov (COFC) in straight sets, while Aida Mitrache (CC) defeated Saige Severance (COFC), also in straight sets. Sarah Clark (CC) claimed victory over Olivia Bull (COFC). Other singles matches were left unfinished due to early clinching by Coastal Carolina.

Looking ahead, Charleston will return home for a matchup against South Carolina State at Turner Tennis Center tomorrow afternoon with first serve scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
