After leading the College of Charleston men’s basketball team to two conference victories, redshirt junior Christian Reeves has been named Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week. This is the first time Reeves has received this weekly honor from the conference.

Reeves averaged 25 points and 13.5 rebounds per game in wins over Campbell and Elon. He made 87 percent of his field goal attempts, going 20-for-23, and collected 10 offensive rebounds out of his total 27 for the week.

In the game against Campbell, Reeves scored 21 points with a career-high nine field goals and grabbed nine rebounds as Charleston won 87-83. In the following matchup against Elon, he set new personal bests with 29 points on 11-of-12 shooting inside the arc and pulled down 18 rebounds in an 80-70 victory. His performance included recording the seventh-most rebounds in a single game in school history. Reeves also became the first CAA player since Towson’s Jerrelle Benimon in December 2012 to record at least 29 points and 18 rebounds against an NCAA Division I opponent.

Reeves is now one of three Cougars players to receive weekly honors from the CAA this season, joining Jlynn Counter and Martin Kalu.

“Reeves led the Cougars to wins over Campbell and Elon last week, averaging a double-double with 25.0 ppg and 13.5 rpg. The Cougars’ big man went nearly perfect from the floor with an 87.0% shooting clip from the field (20-23 FG). He also logged 10 of his 27 rebounds on the offensive glass.”

“Reeves opened the week with 21 points on a career-high nine made field goals to go with nine rebounds in a thrilling 87-83 win over the Camels.”

“The Charlotte, N.C., native followed up with new career highs after rattling off 29 points on 11-of-12 shooting inside the arc, along with 18 rebounds in an 80-70 victory over the Phoenix.”

“His 18 boards were the seventh-most in a single game in school history.”

“Reeves also became the first CAA player to log at least 29 points and 18 rebounds against an NCAA Division I opponent since Towson’s Jerrelle Benimon went off for 30 points and 18 boards against Temple on Dec.12,2012.”

“Reeves joins Jlynn Counter and Martin Kalu as Cougars that have earned weekly honors so far this season.”
