Christian Reeves leads Charleston Cougars past Elon with career performance

Christian Reeves led the College of Charleston men’s basketball team to an 80-70 victory over Elon on Saturday. The win brings the Cougars’ record to 13-8 overall and 6-2 in Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) play.

Charleston started strong, shooting 67% from the field during an early 8-0 run and holding Elon scoreless for nearly four minutes in the opening stretch. By halftime, Charleston led 35-27, with Reeves contributing 11 points and nine rebounds.

Reeves secured a double-double less than a minute into the second half. He finished with a career-high 29 points and 18 rebounds, marking his third career double-double. His rebound total ties for seventh most in a single game in school history. He is also the first CAA player since 2012 to have at least 29 points and 18 rebounds against a Division I opponent.

Colby Duggan added 17 points, three rebounds, and five assists after a strong second half. Martin Kalu scored ten points with five rebounds, while Jlynn Counter led all players with six assists.

Charleston shot 53% from the field compared to Elon’s 41% and held the lead for over 39 minutes. The Cougars won the rebounding battle by a wide margin, collecting 40 boards to Elon’s three. The team also recorded its third-highest assist total of the season with 18 assists and scored 42 points in the paint.

The Cougars will next play Hofstra Pride on Thursday, January 29 in Long Island at 7:00 p.m.
