Citadel rifle teams fall to Navy and Georgia Southern at home

The Citadel mixed rifle team was defeated by Navy and Georgia Southern in matches held over the weekend in Charleston, South Carolina. On Saturday, The Citadel’s mixed rifle squad posted a score of 4,609 points, while the women’s team finished with 2,325. Navy led the competition with 4,745 points and Georgia Southern followed closely with 4,741.

During Saturday’s events, the mixed team earned 2,268 points in the Smallbore discipline and 2,341 in Air Rifle. Braden Michalak placed ninth overall with a combined score of 1,175—582 in Smallbore and 593 in Air Rifle.

For The Citadel women’s team on Saturday, Megan Mix recorded a top Smallbore score of 568. Ella Derrick led her teammates in Air Rifle with a mark of 591.

On Sunday’s match against Navy only, The Citadel’s mixed rifle team improved slightly to finish at 4,626 points. The women’s squad scored 2,323 compared to Navy’s winning total of 4,733.

Sunday saw the mixed team collect scores of 2,274 (Smallbore) and 2,352 (Air Rifle). Michalak finished fourth overall with an aggregate score of 1,169 after posting marks of 576 (Smallbore) and again hitting a high mark of 593 (Air Rifle).

Derrick and Mix were among the top performers for The Citadel women on Sunday as well; Derrick shot a combined total that included a personal best of 577 in Smallbore and added a score of 588 from Air Rifle. Mix contributed scores of 568 (Smallbore) and reached a high mark of 590 (Air Rifle).

The Citadel mixed rifle team’s season will conclude when they host Wofford and North Georgia at the Inouye Marksmanship Center on February 21.
