The Citadel men’s basketball team is set to play Furman University on Wednesday evening at Timmons Arena in Greenville, South Carolina. The game is part of the Southern Conference schedule and will begin at 6:00 p.m. Eastern Time. It will be broadcast on Nexstar affiliates across the region and streamed live on ESPN+.
This matchup marks the 225th time the Bulldogs and Paladins have played each other, with Furman currently leading the all-time series 135–89. Recent meetings between these teams have been closely contested, with three of the last four games going into overtime.
The Citadel enters this game after a 93–72 home loss to Chattanooga last Saturday. In that game, Braxton Williams achieved personal bests for his college career with 26 points and 11 rebounds, including five successful three-point shots. Christian Moore also contributed with 16 points and eight rebounds.
In their previous meeting this season on January 21 in Charleston, The Citadel overcame a 19-point second-half deficit to defeat Furman 77–75 in overtime. Sola Adebisi led that comeback with a career-high 22 points, making nine out of ten shots from the field. Williams added 18 points while Moore scored all of his 14 points in the second half. The comeback was noted as the second-largest in program history.
Over the course of this season’s 29 games so far, Williams leads The Citadel in scoring with an average of 13.6 points per game. Adebisi leads in rebounds at an average of 6.1 per contest and also has team highs in blocks (27) and steals (30). Eze Wali has recorded a team-best total of 68 assists this season, while Moore has made a team-leading 58 three-pointers and is shooting at a rate of 39 percent from beyond the arc.
As a unit, The Citadel averages just over 69 points per game while shooting nearly 42 percent from the field and about 32 percent from three-point range.
Furman comes into Wednesday’s matchup following a road win against Wofford by a score of 76–67. Asa Thomas led Furman with an individual tally of six three-pointers among his total of 18 points; Alex Wilkins contributed another strong performance with his own total of fifteen points.
So far this season through their first twenty-nine games, Furman averages just under seventy-five points per game offensively while allowing almost seventy per contest defensively. Their field goal percentage stands at just over forty-five percent overall and nearly thirty-six percent from long distance.
Wilkins is currently Furman’s top scorer at an average rate approaching eighteen points per contest; Charles Johnston contributes more than twelve points along with over six rebounds per game; Thomas adds just above eleven points each outing.
