Citadel tennis team loses 7-0 to Mercer in conference match

The Citadel tennis team lost 7-0 to Mercer in a Southern Conference match on April 11 at the Copelan Tennis Complex.

The result is significant as it marks the Bulldogs’ final road match of the regular season, with only one home doubleheader remaining before postseason play.

Mercer won all three doubles matches, taking the opening point. Brady Gober and Ted Bagwell lost 6-1 at No. 1 doubles, while Tucker Hendrix and Noah Van Dyke were defeated 6-4 at No. 2. Reece Beckendorf and Anthony Osipov also fell by a score of 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.

In singles competition, Noah Van Dyke was defeated at No. 1 singles by a score of 6-1, 6-2. At No. 2 singles, Gober lost his match with sets of 6-2, 6-2. Bagwell extended his contest to a third set but ultimately fell short with scores of 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) at No.3 singles. Nick Stroumpis dropped his match at No.4 singles by scores of 6-2, 6-1; Beckendorf went to a deciding set before losing at No.5 singles (6-3,1–6,10–3); Graham Hardin finished out the lineup with a loss (6–2, 6–0) as Mercer completed its sweep.

The Bulldogs will finish their regular season schedule on Sunday when they host Duke for a doubleheader at Earle Tennis Center beginning at 12:30 p.m., followed by another match scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
