The Citadel secured a 34-11 victory over Virginia Military Institute (VMI) on Sunday, earning a share of the Southern Conference (SoCon) regular-season wrestling championship for the first time since 2004. The match took place at McAlister Field House in Charleston, South Carolina.

Key performances for The Citadel included an early pin by Teegan Vasquez at 133 pounds and technical falls from Kyrel Leavell at 157 pounds and Brodie Porter at 184 pounds. The Bulldogs won seven out of ten bouts against VMI.

With this win, The Citadel finished its conference schedule with a 7-1 record. Chattanooga and Appalachian State also ended their seasons at 7-1 after winning their respective matches on Sunday, resulting in a three-way tie for the regular-season title. Earlier in the season, The Citadel defeated Chattanooga by criteria but lost to Appalachian State.

The team will next compete in the Southern Conference Championship tournament at Kimmel Arena in Asheville, North Carolina. Wrestlers from all nine league programs will participate in the two-day double-elimination event.
