The City of Charleston has announced the dates for its annual Operation Move-Out initiative, which is scheduled from July 31 through August 5, 2025. No work will take place on Sunday, August 3. The program coincides with the period when many College of Charleston students and other tenants are moving out of and into downtown rental properties.

Operation Move-Out aims to address the recurring issue of discarded household goods piling up on city streets during this high-turnover time. The city is taking steps to keep streets clean, safe, and accessible by encouraging residents and property managers to properly dispose of items.

Residents and tenants are being asked to follow specific guidelines: “Stack large items neatly at the curb Bag small items and clothing in clear plastic bags Recycle correctly: green bins for trash, blue bins for recyclables Do not place electronics at the curb—take them to an approved drop-off location.”

Property managers have also been encouraged to use dumpsters located on Milford Street in order to reduce the amount of debris left at curbsides.

The city emphasizes that cooperation from both residents and property managers will help maintain a clean environment downtown. “By following these simple steps, residents and property managers can help ensure downtown Charleston remains clean and welcoming for all.”

For further information or questions about Operation Move-Out, individuals are directed to contact the City of Charleston Livability Division at 843-805-3226.
