The City of Charleston has announced that its offices will be closed on Monday, February 16, in observance of President’s Day.

During the week starting February 16, city public service crews will operate on a one-day delay. Collections scheduled for Monday will occur on Tuesday, and each subsequent day’s collection will move to the following day through Friday. However, Trident Waste services for Johns Island and outer West Ashley, as well as Daniel Island and Cainhoy, will maintain their normal schedules during this period.

All city recreation facilities will be closed on President’s Day except for the Municipal Golf Course, which will remain open with regular hours.

“All City Offices will be closed on Monday, February 16th.”

Charleston is known for its significant role in American history. Sites such as the Old Slave Mart Museum address the domestic slave trade and highlight the city’s historical importance (https://www.charleston-sc.gov/160/Old-Slave-Mart-Museum). The Council Chamber in Charleston’s City Hall dates back to 1818 and features original chandeliers and historic portraits (https://www.charleston-sc.gov/179/Council-Chamber). It also retains original Thomas Edison light bulbs from 1896 that were operational until 1983 (https://www.charleston-sc.gov/179/Council-Chamber).

The city extends around Charleston Harbor and plays a role within the broader Charleston–North Charleston–Summerville region (https://www.charleston-sc.gov/2010/History). According to its mission statement, Charleston focuses on preserving and improving residents’ quality of life while working with regional government entities to enhance these efforts (https://www.charleston-sc.gov/403/Mission-Values).
