The City of Charleston has introduced a new online platform called WaterWise, aimed at providing residents, business owners, and developers with centralized information about water management. The webpage offers resources on topics such as reducing runoff, preventing flooding, city ordinances related to water, and details about community projects.

According to Kaylan Koszela, Director of Resilience for the City of Charleston, “Our water systems are vital to Charleston’s future—from protecting our communities from flooding to ensuring safe, sustainable development. The WaterWise page is designed to empower residents with the knowledge and tools they need to help us build a stronger, more resilient city.”

The WaterWise site features guidance for homeowners on stormwater management and flood mitigation, direct links to hurricane preparedness tools including real-time event data like road closures, and quick access for reporting flooding or requesting drainage maintenance. Developers can find information about drainage regulations and permitting requirements. The platform also provides links to city projects and interactive maps, volunteer opportunities, and tips on local water quality and conservation.

This initiative is part of Charleston’s ongoing effort to improve transparency and streamline public access to resources while promoting resiliency and sustainability throughout the city.

The new WaterWise webpage can be accessed at charleston-sc.gov/WaterWise.
