Maya Clark and Chloe Mae Wilks achieved personal records for the Charleston Southern Buccaneers women’s track and field team on the first day of the Doc Hale Invite at Virginia Tech. Clark finished second overall in the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.03 seconds, which is now the second-fastest in school history for that event and ranks tenth all-time in conference history. Teammates Grenisha Thomas and Caroline Aslerin also competed in the 400m, posting times of 56.47 and 56.63 seconds respectively, with Thomas setting her own career best.
In the 60-meter hurdles, Wilks set a personal record during preliminaries with an 8.54-second run before improving to 8.52 seconds in the finals to secure fourth place overall. Brenda du Toit participated as well, running a personal best of 9.09 seconds in prelims.
Distance events saw Lucy McNamara and Freya Buglass compete in the one mile, finishing with times of 5:02.94 and 5:04.25 respectively. Katrina Husby led her team in the 3,000 meters with a time of 10:07.62, while Elizabeth Shaylor posted her season-best at 10:22.87.
The only throws event on Friday was the weight throw, where Josaphine Ankney achieved a personal best distance of 15.53 meters and Lily Rowan threw for 14.98 meters.
The Buccaneers will return to Virginia Tech for the final day of competition at the Doc Hale Invite on Saturday.
