The College of Charleston men’s golf team is set to compete in the Wexford Intercollegiate, which will take place February 16-17 at Wexford Golf Club in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The event is hosted by Francis Marion University and includes teams such as Dayton, Gardner-Webb, Xavier, Saint Joseph’s, Temple, USC Aiken, East Carolina, Presbyterian, Mercer, Cleveland State, Samford, Western Carolina, High Point, Radford, Cornell, and DePaul.
Charleston recently finished tied for sixth place at the Puerto Rico Classic. The tournament featured eight teams ranked in the top 50 nationally. Charleston outperformed six Power 4 programs: Georgia (ranked 32), Iowa, Louisville (ranked 29), Minnesota, Purdue (ranked 37), and Wisconsin.
During the final round of the Puerto Rico Classic, Nevill Ruiter shot a bogey-free score of 65 (-7). This performance moved him up 34 spots on the individual leaderboard and resulted in a tie for 18th place overall. Ruiter made seven birdies during his round—including three consecutive birdies on holes four through six.
Miles Eubanks and Johan Bredenkamp each recorded a total of 16 birdies over three rounds at the Puerto Rico Classic. This number was among the highest for any competitor at the event. Jules Lauer participated in his first tournament as a member of Charleston’s team and posted scores of 70, 69, and 72 across three rounds; his second-round score was the lowest for Charleston that day.
The Wexford Intercollegiate will follow a format of 54 holes—36 holes played on Monday and another 18 on Tuesday. The course measures 6,684 yards with a par of 72. Live scoring for the tournament will be available online at https://scoreboard.clippd.com/tournaments/243005/scoring/participants.
