Cooper River Center for Advanced Studies has announced that its first group of students has successfully completed the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) program, marking a milestone for Charleston County School District.
At the beginning of the academic year, Principal Vanessa Brown aimed to have students earn the CCMA credential through the National Healthcareer Association. To qualify, participants finished Cooper River’s Health Science curriculum, engaged in additional study outside school hours using NHA materials, and completed an internship at Roper Hospital.
Three seniors achieved passing scores above the national threshold of 390 out of 500 on the NHA exam: Sanaai Spillers from North Charleston High School scored 447, Litzy Rivera Reyes from R.B. Stall High School scored 412, and Kamora Green from North Charleston High School scored 404.
“These students are graduating not only career-ready, but ‘career-launched,’ equipped with industry-recognized credentials that position them for immediate employment in the healthcare field,” said Principal Vanessa Brown.
School officials acknowledged members of the Cooper River Health Science Department—Linda Smith, Natasha Bratton, and Kelly Kelleher—for their role in supporting student achievement and promoting excellence in healthcare education.
The center plans to continue offering pathways for students to earn professional certifications and practical experience relevant to high-demand careers.
