Charleston Southern senior golfer Dewi John was named the fifth Big South Individual Medalist in Buccaneer history at the Big South Men’s Golf Championship, according to an announcement on April 28.

John’s performance at the Ocean Creek Golf Course in Fripp Island, South Carolina, included rounds of 69, 68, and 69 for a total score of seven-under par. This victory marks the first time since 2016 that a Charleston Southern player has earned individual medalist honors at this event. With this win, John qualifies for the NCAA Regionals and will learn his next competition location during the Selection Show on May 6.

Head coach Scooter Clark said, “I’m so proud of Dewi. He’s had a lot of experience playing here at Fripp Island, some good and some not so good, and he’s handled it all with grace and class. It’s so fitting that his last go around here at the Big South Championship ended with him coming out victorious. I can’t wait to watch him continue his collegiate career and battle with the best in the NCAA Regionals in May!”

During three days of play, John recorded fifteen birdies and one eagle to secure a two-stroke victory over his competitors. The Buccaneers finished fifth as a team among eight teams but did not advance to match play. Other notable performances included Alex North tying for thirteenth place at three-over par and Theo Takman tying for seventeenth place at four-over par.

In addition to earning medalist honors, John was also named to the All-Championship Team.
