Charleston Southern University basketball player Jacob Taylor has been named the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week for the third time this season, according to an announcement from the conference on Monday. This is the first time Taylor has received the honor in back-to-back weeks.
During recent games against Presbyterian on February 12 and Radford on February 14, Taylor scored a total of 22 points. He made 9 out of 15 field goal attempts, resulting in a shooting percentage of 60 percent. This performance placed him tied for eighth among all players in the conference last week.
Taylor is one of only two freshmen in the Big South Conference to have won the Freshman of the Week award three or more times this season, highlighting his strong start as a first-year player.
He is also the first Charleston Southern freshman since Phlandrous Fleming Jr. during the 2017–18 season to receive this recognition three times in one year.
“Taylor scored a combined 22 points during the week in games vs. Presbyterian (Feb. 12) and at Radford (Feb. 14). He also shot a combined 9-for-15 from the field (60 percent), which ranked tied for eighth in the conference last week.”
“Only one other freshman in the Big South has won the Freshman of the Week award three or more times this season, further cementing Taylor’s status as one of the league’s most promising young talents.”
“Taylor is the first Charleston Southern freshman to win the Freshman of the Week award three times in a single season since Phlandrous Fleming Jr. (2017–18).”
