Charleston Southern University’s women’s track and field team finished second at the 2026 Big South Indoor Championships, held in Tryon, North Carolina. The Buccaneers earned a total of 167 points, with standout athlete Maeva Tahou contributing 40 points by winning all four events she entered.
Tahou was recognized as the Most Valuable Athlete of the Meet and received the Most Outstanding Performance award for her long jump on Friday. On Saturday, she set a school record in the triple jump with a distance of 13.03 meters, which is nearly two feet further than the previous school mark and ranks fourth in conference history.
In addition to her performance in the triple jump, Tahou won the 60-meter hurdles final with a personal best time of 8.26 seconds after running 8.30 in preliminaries. Her teammate Grenisha Thomas finished second in that event with a time of 8.41 seconds, moving her to third in school history and ninth all-time in conference records.
Tahou also secured first place in the 200-meter dash finals with a time of 24.15 seconds, tying for the second-best mark in program history. Thomas followed closely behind at 24.25 seconds to finish second and move to sixth on Charleston Southern’s all-time list. Maya Clark and Caroline Aslerin placed sixth and seventh respectively.
Thomas claimed another individual championship by winning the 60-meter dash finals with a time of 7.53 seconds.
Clark achieved another personal best in the 400 meters with a time of 53.98 seconds, breaking her own school record from earlier this season and moving to third place on the conference’s historical list while finishing second overall at the meet. Aslerin took third place at 54.87 seconds, while Barbara de Kock was sixth at 56.32 seconds.
The team’s sprinters concluded their competition by setting new school, meet, and conference records in the 4×400 meter relay with a time of 3:38.85 minutes; Aslerin, Thomas, de Kock, and Clark comprised this record-setting squad.
In distance events, Charlize Antia finished third in the one mile run with a time of 4:55.24—moving up to third place on Charleston Southern’s historical list for that event—while Lucy McNamara and Freya Buglass were eighth and ninth respectively.
McNamara also placed third in the 800 meters (2:13.37), Sienna Rose was sixth (2:17.54), and Buglass finished seventh (2:18.35). Rose’s result places her seventh on CSU’s all-time list for that distance.
Giada D’Agostino earned eighth place in the three-kilometer run (10:19.12).
The Buccaneers had five athletes score points in shot put for a combined total of 22 points; Zemaya Carson led this group by finishing second (14.43m), Yassine Kamara was third (14.25m), Josaphine Ankney fifth (13.37m), Avah Morrison sixth (13.03m), and Lily Rowan eighth (12.62m).
Maya Clark received Newcomer of the Year honors while Charleston Southern’s staff was voted Coaching Staff of the Year.
The Buccaneers will now take some time off before beginning their outdoor season later this month at both Charlotte’s 49er Classic from March 19-21 and their home Buccaneer Invitational on March 20.
