The northbound lanes of the US 17 Ashley River Bridge are temporarily closed following a mechanical failure involving construction equipment. According to officials, the contractor Mas-Tec Civil experienced a malfunction early this morning with a large aerial boom stationed on the bridge. The hydraulic system supporting the boom failed, preventing it from being safely lowered.

“This was an unforeseen mechanical issue and is outside of the project team’s control,” representatives said in coordination with SCDOT.

Crews are currently working to resolve the situation. The three northbound lanes will remain closed until repairs are complete and the equipment can be removed safely.
