Nevill Ruiter led the Charleston Cougars men’s golf team to a tie for sixth place at the 2026 Puerto Rico Classic, hosted by Purdue in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico. Ruiter delivered a bogey-free round of 65 (-7) on the final day, moving up 34 spots in the individual standings to finish tied for 18th. He recorded seven birdies during his round, including three consecutive birdies on holes four through six.
The Cougars finished the tournament at 28-under par, with their final round score of 14-under being the second lowest of the day and marking their best single-round performance this season. All five team members posted under-par scores in the last round.
Charleston outperformed six Power 4 programs: Georgia (#32), Iowa, Louisville (#29), Minnesota, Purdue (#37), and Wisconsin. The field included eight teams ranked in the top 50 nationally.
Miles Eubanks and Johan Bredenkamp each made 16 birdies over three rounds, ranking seventh among all players in that category. Jules Lauer played his first tournament as a Cougar and shot rounds of 70, 69, and 72; his second-round score was Charleston’s lowest on day two.
The team’s next event is scheduled for February 16-17 at the Wexford Intercollegiate in Hilton Head.
