The Charleston Police Department has arrested a 16-year-old in connection with the homicide that took place on Ashley Avenue on December 10, 2025. This follows the earlier arrest of a 17-year-old suspect on December 17, who had already been charged in relation to the case.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting at approximately 6:45 p.m. on Ashley Avenue. Upon arrival, they found a 17-year-old victim who had suffered gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Charleston County Coroner’s Office later identified the victim as Luis Garcia-Galvez.

Detectives learned during their investigation that Garcia-Galvez drove to meet two suspects, who are related. Investigators believe the suspects approached his vehicle, attempted an armed robbery, and then shot him. The victim died from his injuries.

Both suspects have been charged with murder, armed robbery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime. The first suspect, aged 17, was taken into custody on December 17. The second suspect, aged 16, was arrested by Charleston Police Department officers on December 22 with help from the U.S. Marshals Service, North Charleston Police Department, and Charleston County Sheriff’s Office. Both juveniles are being held at the Department of Juvenile Justice.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the Charleston Police Department at 843-720-2422 and ask for the on-duty Central Detective or submit anonymous tips online at www.charleston-sc.gov/tips.
