Sia Cariov was named the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA) Player of the Week after achieving two singles victories in the No. 1 spot and contributing to Charleston’s important league win over UNCW, according to an announcement on Apr. 14.
The recognition highlights Cariov’s strong performance, which helped Charleston secure a key position as they approach the CAA Championship. Awards like these underscore individual contributions that can impact team standings and postseason opportunities.
Cariov, a sophomore, secured two wins at No. 1 singles last week, leading Charleston past South Carolina State with a score of 6-1 and CAA rival UNCW with a score of 5-2. She defeated her South Carolina State opponent 6-0, 6-4 and followed up with a commanding 6-1, 6-3 victory against UNCW’s top player.
This is Cariov’s second weekly award this season and marks the third weekly honor for Charleston this year. The Cougars have also received two CAA Doubles Team of the Week awards: Oziera Ahmad and Riley Trinkle were recognized on March 24 after going undefeated on court two and helping earn two conference wins; Sia Cariov and Francesca Salvato received honors on March 10 after securing an important doubles point in a close match against Buffalo Bulls.
Charleston has earned the No. 3 seed in the upcoming CAA Championship tournament and will face No. 6 Campbell in Williamsburg at Mackesy Tennis Center on Friday night at 6 p.m., with links available through cofcsports.com when posted.
