The percentage of unemployed residents was less than the statewide total of 39.3 percent for this demographic group. In 2017 the total North Charleston population reached 84,348.

Out of 56,273 people who had a job, 1,994 were employed in the Armed Forces and 54,279 belonged to the civilian labor force.

The total unemployment numbers include residents of all ages who are not working.
