34.2% unemployed in Charleston County in 2017

34.2 percent of Charleston County residents between 16 and 65 years old were unemployed in 2017, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The percentage of unemployed residents was less than the statewide total of 39.3 percent for this demographic group. In 2017 the total Charleston County population reached 317,988.

Out of 209,293 people who had a job, 2,513 were employed in the Armed Forces and 206,780 belonged to the civilian labor force.

The total unemployment numbers include residents of all ages who are not working.
