Cost of college went up for all students at Citadel Military College of South Carolina

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.8 percent for 2018-19 at Citadel Military College of South Carolina, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

South Carolina residents paid $12,516 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $460 more than the $12,056 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 179.5 percent more than residents this year, or $34,988. Their price tag grew 3.5 percent from $33,819 in 2017-18.

About 54 percent of the school's undergraduate population are South Carolina residents. About 45 percent are residents of other states and 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 88 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 534 students received grants or scholarships totaling $6.4 million and 392 students took out student loans totaling more than $4.4 million.

Including all undergraduates (3,763), 1,830 students used grants or scholarships totaling $21.7 million, and 1,362 students took out $9 million in federal student loans.
