Of the 12,076 people living in James Island in 2019, 50.1 percent (6,052) were women and 49.9 percent (6,024) were men, according to U.S. Census Bureau data obtained by the Charleston Reporter.

Males 18 and over outnumbered females in the same age group by a ratio of 4,043-to-3,766. In the 65 and over age range, there were 1,263 females and 945 males.
