Cross The Cut Ride Announced + Double Your Donation

LET'S RIDE FOR AN EQUITABLE WAPPOO CUT CROSSING

We are excited to announce the second event in our 2021 fall series: Cross the Cut Ride on Saturday, November 20 at 11 am!

Please join us for a police-escorted ride over the Wappoo Cut Bridge and along key corridors we are working to upgrade. This is a unique opportunity to catch amazing views of the Wappoo Creek between James Island and West Ashley, while supporting our work to safely Cross the Cut.

As many of you know, the Wappoo Cut Bridge currently has sidewalks leading to it, and a maintenance path across, but the space is far too narrow and close to fast-moving vehicles. This is a key corridor that links destinations with existing infrastructure and pending projects, including: the West Ashley Greenway, Maryville Bikeway, new Ashley River Bicycle & Pedestrian Bridge, McLeod Plantation, Rethink Folly Road improvements, Maybank Highway complete streets work, James Island County Park, and more. Despite progress and opportunities on both sides, this bridge remains a barrier. Through 2021 and early 2022, we will be working on a technical assistance grant application to determine the best way to tackle this, while building up stakeholder support and community storytelling.

Your participation helps us demonstrate critical mass, and your support helps us get to the next step of fixing this dangerous crossing. We sincerely hope you join us, and ask that you please consider donating.

I'LL BE THERE!

We will have a table set up at the Terrace Shopping Center with multiple ways for you to engage and support this project, so even if you do not want to join the ride, we encourage you to stop by to see us and participate! Also, if you do want to ride but do not have a bike, email Info@CharlestonMoves.org (deadline to request is November 6).

P.S. — Our Better North Bridge Ride is coming up in two weeks! Don't forget to RSVP if you're planning to ride with us. Otherwise, we hope you'll stop by to take action and demonstrate your support for the project.

$10,000 MATCH

Great news! An anonymous West Ashley supporter is matching your donations, up to $10,000, toward our Legwork for Livability campaign. This is your chance to double your individual impact on our continued advocacy for a Better North Bridge and equitable Wappoo Cut crossing! We are so grateful and humbled by our matching donor's outstanding generosity, and we would love your help meeting our $50,000 goal.

Unlocking both of these barriers will not only provide direct, equitable access between West Ashley, James Island and North Charleston, but also facilitates connections to multiple bike/ped projects underway, including the new Ashley River Crossing between downtown and West Ashley.Take a look at our Progress Map to see the status of our multi-modal network and how our vision is coming together!

Please join this amazing donor in standing up for a connected and accessible Charleston, one that is equitable, safe and benefits everyone!MAKE A DIFFERENCENote: Due to the pandemic, we are not hosting our annual Pedal & Panache fundraiser this year. In lieu of that, the Legwork for Livability campaign is our 2021 fall fundraiser, so we really need you.Thank you for your support,
