A ribbon-cutting ceremony on Oct. 7 celebrated the new home for the Richland County Hopkins Magistrate Office, according to a release from the county.
This opening marks the return of magistrate services in the Hopkins community after several years of absence, the release states. The office most recently operated out of the Richland County Central Court facility on Decker Boulevard before being moved to the new site.
“The new Hopkins Magistrate Office was a vision of Council, County staff and our local magistrates, and now we have seen it come to fruition,” District 10 Councilwoman Cheryl English said in the release. “This office can serve as a point of pride for the County, as we are better equipped to serve residents of the Hopkins community.”

According to the release, the 4,900-square-foot structure offers increased space, including a larger courtroom. The office was paid for by the county with a public safety bond, the release states.
There will be 14 full-time and three part-time magistrates at the new office, the county reported
