Charleston-based Blackbaud named one of nation's 'most responsible' companies

"Social good" is in the DNA of a Charleston cloud computing company that recently was named one of the nation's "most responsible," according to a company vice president.

Blackbaud, a company that produces cloud software company "powering social good," was named to Newsweek's list of "America’s Most Responsible Companies 2022", according to a recent Blackbaud news release

Blackbaud was one of 500 companies on the Newsweek list as leaders in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) policies in 14 industries.

"We are proud to be recognized among America's top companies as a corporate responsibility and ESG leader," Rachel Hutchisson, Blackbaud global social responsibility vice president, said in the company release. "Commitment to social good has been in Blackbaud’s DNA since our company was founded 40 years ago. Our vision is to power an Ecosystem of Good that builds a better world. 

"Along with our customers, employees and communities, we work toward that goal every day, and it’s an honor to receive this award."

Blackbaud, with headquarters on Fairchild Street in Charleston, provides cloud computing for organizations that serve the social good in their communities' social good community. 

Those organizations include nonprofits, foundations, educational institutions, healthcare and religious groups.

Blackbaud ranked 299 overall of the 500 companies on Newsweek's list and in the top 25 for the list's software and telecommunications industry.

Another South Carolina company that made the list was Sonoco Products, headquartered in Hartsville, which ranked 214th.

Newsweek's list is a partnership with Statista to evaluate the top 2,000 U.S.-based public companies by revenue on key corporate responsibility indicators. Those indicators include environmental engagement, leadership diversity, philanthropy and engagement, disclosure and transparency and economic performance.

Statista also surveyed more than 11,000 people about their perception of the companies' CSR practices.

Last month, Blackbaud was recognized as a U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation Citizens Award winner, and in April was named a Diversity Champion by the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce.

Blackbaud rang the Nasdaq closing bell the day after Thanksgiving this year in in honor of GivingTuesday.
