The top-ranked University of South Carolina women's basketball team clamped down and defense and used a game-high 19 points, 14 rebounds, four blocks and two steals from Aliyah Boston for a 55-46 triumph on the road over No. 15 Duke last week.

"Our defense went crazy in Cameron tonight. The Gamecocks hold Duke to just 46 points and pick up another road win over a ranked opponent!," the South Carolina women's basketball team's official Twitter account tweeted after the Dec. 15 contest.

Duke's Elizabeth Balogun flushed a 3-pointer to open the game, but it was all South Carolina after that, as the Gamecocks scored 17 unanswered points over the next eight minutes, according to an Associated Press story on Gamecocks online

The Blue Devils rallied in the second half, outscoring the Gamecocks 30-23, but were unable to stop Boston and fellow Gamecocks Laeticia Amihere and Desinty Littleton, who combined for 20 points.

South Carolina outrebounded Duke, 44-26.

“We did get off to a pretty decent start, and then, I think we just started thinking. Just overthinking and just not playing simple basketball," said South Carolina coach Dawn Staley. "It’s really a simple game. Basketball is truly simple.”

The Gamecocks close out their non-conference schedule 7 p.m. Tuesday against No. 3 Stanford at Colonial Life Arena in Columbia.
