Distribution and transportation provider Ability Tri-Modal will expand its operations in Charleston County, creating 27 new jobs with a $24 million investment.
In a Dec. 17 news release from the office of Gov. Henry McMaster (R), Ability Tri-Modal Executive Vice President Mike Kelso thanked those who have helped the company establish its presence in North Charleston.
“We are very excited to see this building expansion project get started and be able to see it completed. We want to thank our local team members for their hard work and efforts to help put our organization in the position for expansion in the Charleston area,” Kelso said, according to the news release. "We also would like to thank the local vendors who support us, the Charleston County Economic Development Department and the good folks at the Port of Charleston, which we utilize to serve our client base. We appreciate these new relationships and hope to continue to build on them into the future.”
The company, founded in 1982 in California, provides warehousing and distribution services to consumers for bicoastal service. It specializes in trans-loading, consolidation and deconsolidation, retail delivery and other value-added services.
Ability Tri-Modal’s expansion, at 3298 Benchmark Drive in North Charleston, is set to increase storage and distribution services to support growing demand in the region. McMaster congratulated the company, stating that Ability Tri-Modal’s expansion is further proof that companies can find success in the state as South Carolina’s warehousing and distribution sectors are booming.

Driver positions require at least two years of driving experience. Applicants must be at least 25 years of age, be drug-free and pass a background check. Port drivers will also be required to possess a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
