The Charleston Battery will open their 30th season with a home match against FC Tulsa on March 12, the USL Championship said in announcing the league’s home openers recently.

“It’s great to have something concrete and an opponent to look forward to for the first game as we kick off the 2022 season,” Coach Conor Casey said on the team website. “We’re busy and excited for the preseason time to get ready for the match, but looking forward to a full house and the support of all the fans.”

The Battery has not opened at home since 2019.

The match against Tulsa will be a first, as the teams have never faced off. It will also be Casey’s first season at the helm in Charleston.

Tulsa brings an impressive resume. The team has made it to two consecutive USL Championship Playoffs appearances.

The league is returning to the traditional two-conference set-up. With both teams in the Eastern Conference, Tulsa and Charleston will play each other twice this season.

Charleston finished 10-15-7 last year. They have made several moves in the off-season, bringing in midfielder Andrew Booth, forward Aidan Apodaca and defenders Preston Kilwien and Matt Sheldon. They also re-signed Romario Piggott recently, a move that is awaiting league approval.

The game will be at Patriots Point Soccer Stadium in Mount Pleasant. Tickets are available online
