MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (September 13, 2022) – Mayor Will Haynie has proclaimed the month of September as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month in the Town of Mount Pleasant. He encouraged all residents to join in honor of children who have been diagnosed with, survived, or lost their battle against cancer
Childhood Cancer Awareness Month recognizes the courage and compassion of those children and their families throughout South Carolina and the nation who have battled or are currently battling cancer.
“Cancer is the leading cause of disease-related deaths among children each year, with 1 in 285 children in the U.S. being diagnosed with cancer before their 20th birthday. Cancer in children is generally not preventable and its causes are unknown,” said Mayor Haynie.
“By working together to raise awareness of the devastating effects of childhood cancer and the need for continued research into the causes, improved treatments, and a cure for the disease, we can make a positive difference for families, patients, and survivors in the future,” he added.
