(Washington, D.C., May 23, 2024) — Representative Nancy Mace (R-SC-01) released a statement following the House Armed Services Committee's adoption of 14 of her proposed amendments for the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25).
“This year's NDAA FY25 underscores our unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of life for servicemembers and their families in the Lowcountry and across the nation. By investing in cutting-edge technology and innovation, strengthening our alliances and partnerships, and bolstering our defense industrial base and military readiness, we are ensuring that our armed forces remain prepared and resilient,” said Rep. Nancy Mace (SC-01). “We have delivered a clear, bipartisan message: Congress stands united in its dedication to our national security and the well-being of our servicemembers.”
Rep. Mace is a member of the House Committee on Armed Services Quality of Life Panel, which addresses issues impacting U.S. service members and their families, including compensation, child care, housing, support programs for spouses of service members, and health care. The panel provided a written report to the Military Personnel Subcommittee Chair and Ranking Member with recommended proposals for the NDAA FY25.
Rep. Mace successfully passed 14 amendments in the NDAA markup aimed at enhancing national defense strategy and servicemember well-being.
Some key amendments include:
- Requiring a report from the Department of Defense on troop discharges over the last decade due to cannabis use.
- Developing protocols for oral rehydration solutions to prevent dehydration and heat-related injuries among military personnel.
- Reporting on infertility rates among active duty troops.
- Setting standards of proof for administrative cases to enhance reporting requirements and improve training for investigators.
- Reporting on recruitment efforts & reinstatements into the military.
- Assessing whether locality pay for DoD civilians accurately reflects cost of living.
- Addressing recommendations & steps for medical personnel recruitment & retention in the military.
- Directing a report on building a nuclear propulsion simulator in Goose Creek.
- Briefing on CCP's hypersonic weapons development by Defense Intelligence Agency.
- Creating advanced training environments for cyber, electromagnetic warfare, and information operations.
- Expanding protective measures against smishing, phishing, and business text/email compromise using generative AI.
- Incorporating findings from state marijuana programs into research on brain injuries.
- Reporting on plans for developing the Eastern Regional Range Complex (ERRC).
- Reporting on recruitment efforts post-COVID vaccine mandates layoffs.
