Officer Jeremy Maurer of the North Charleston Police Department (NCPD) has been honored with two "Lifesaving Awards" for actions taken in April.

On February 15, Officer Maurer responded to a medical emergency involving Paramedic Nate Goppert at Trident Medical Center. Goppert's condition deteriorated while waiting in a wheelchair to be seen. Recognizing the severity of the situation, Officer Maurer transported Goppert to the emergency area and informed the medical staff of his condition. It was later determined that Goppert had suffered a stroke and was experiencing a brain bleed. Goppert credited Officer Maurer's prompt response with saving his life and subsequently nominated him for the award.

In another incident, Officer Maurer saved an infant who was choking. Upon arriving at the scene, he found the baby unresponsive and not breathing. He successfully cleared the infant’s airway, allowing the child to breathe again. Charleston County EMS then transported the baby to a hospital for further treatment.

The NCPD expressed pride in Officer Maurer's actions, stating, "Ptl. Maurer, we are so proud of you for a job well done in saving two lives!"
