A suspect has been arrested for a peeping tom incident in downtown Charleston and has also been charged in connection with a separate burglary and sexual assault incident in West Ashley.

On July 6, 2024, at approximately 2:40 a.m., a suspect was observed going onto the porch of a Radcliffe Street residence and peeking through the windows at two separate victims. While investigating the peeping tom incident, detectives were notified of a burglary and sexual assault that occurred around 4 a.m. the same night in West Ashley, involving a similarly described suspect. Officers had responded to a report of an unknown male who entered an apartment on Ashley Crossing Drive and sexually assaulted two victims.

Through the course of the investigation, including numerous tips provided by the public, detectives identified Juan Angel Borrero Bristol, 43, of Charleston, as the suspect in both incidents. Bristol is charged with two counts of voyeurism as well as first-degree burglary and two counts of assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.

Further investigation revealed that Bristol was also responsible for an attempted burglary on Saint Philip Street in 2023. He is additionally charged with attempted burglary for that incident. Bristol is currently in custody at the Al Cannon Detention Center pending a bond hearing.

Chief Walker said, “These cases were solved through the collective effort of our community, media, and our officers and detectives who have been working on these investigations around the clock. We continue to recognize that vigilance and community involvement protect our city’s well-being.”

The use of home security cameras played a vital role in these investigations. If you would like to join our security camera registry, you can do so HERE.
