The Charleston Police Department has launched a new online reporting website that offers the public an additional mechanism to report incidents. In 2023, CPD officers completed 19,918 incident reports and have completed 10,146 incident reports in 2024 through July 1. This high volume supports the need for multiple reporting channels to better serve the community.

This website is designed to complement, not replace, the traditional method of officers responding to calls. It allows the public to complete reports, submit information, photos, videos, and evidence through a secure portal at any time without requiring a police response. This service is available in a convenient online and mobile-optimized format. Importantly, online reporting is optional, and CPD officers will still respond to calls for service.

All reports submitted online are reviewed, assigned, and investigated just like those taken by an officer. However, the online reporting website is not intended for in-progress incidents or those involving weapons; such situations should still be reported directly to 911 to ensure the most efficient and accurate response. Additionally, the online reporting website is not suitable for incidents that occurred outside the Charleston Police Department's jurisdiction.

Types of incidents that can be reported online include:

- Electronic harassment

- Identity theft

- Shoplifting

- Lost property

- Theft

- Theft from a vehicle

- Vandalism

- Vandalism to a vehicle

Furthermore, the online reporting website allows the public to submit tips, respond to questions or requests for additional information about their reports, and view their report.

The online reporting website can be found HERE or by visiting www.charleston-sc.gov/onlinereporting.
