The City of Charleston will conduct its annual Operation Moveout collection program to help remove trash and bulk items from downtown streets, addressing the high volume of lease turnover from college students at the end of July. The initiative will run from July 31 through August 5, excluding Sunday, August 4.
Tenants are asked to place trash items on their curbs by 7:00 a.m. for same-day pickup.
Guidelines for placing items on the curb include:
- Only solid waste should be placed in the green collection bin.
- Only recyclables should be placed in the blue collection bin.
- Large household items should be stacked neatly at the curb.
- Small personal items and clothes should be in clear bags.
- No electronic items are to be placed at the curb; they must be taken to the recycling center by the tenant.
“Operation Move-out is an essential annual effort designed to enhance quality of life for Charleston residents and visitors alike,” said Dan Riccio, the city’s Chief of the Community Services Section. “By proactively managing the disposal of trash and household items during the end-of-July lease turnover, we’re able to prevent the accumulation of waste on our streets and sidewalks, and ensure a clean, safe and pleasant environment for all.”
The City urges tenants to donate gently used items to donation centers and charities.
