Washington, D.C., September 10, 2024 — Congresswoman Nancy Mace introduced the No Amnesty for Hamas Sympathizers Act, a bill aimed at ensuring individuals who have resided in Palestinian-administered territories or who hold passports or other travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority are not admitted to the United States.
“We’re taking a practical approach to protecting American citizens. At a time when our national security is paramount, it’s essential we enforce clear and common-sense immigration policies," said Congresswoman Nancy Mace. "This bill ensures individuals who may be interested in carrying out Hamas's mission are prohibited from entering the United States."
The bill nullifies President Biden’s Memorandum providing Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) to certain residents of Palestinian-administered territories and prohibits individuals who have resided in these territories or who hold passports or other travel documents issued by the Palestinian Authority from receiving Temporary Protected Status (TPS), parole, asylum, refugee status, or other special immigration designations. The bill also stipulates that these individuals are inadmissible and deportable under the Immigration and Nationality Act. The legislation seeks to close loopholes that could allow those with dangerous affiliations to gain entry or remain in the United States.
Background:
71% of Palestinians supported Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7, up significantly in Gaza.
59% of Palestinians believe Hamas should govern Gaza; only 7% blame Hamas for their suffering.
Hamas has surged in popularity, now leading Fatah 34% to 17% in head-to-head polling.
81% of Palestinians are dissatisfied with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
Only 5% of Palestinians believe Hamas’s actions on October 7 constitute war crimes.
80% of Palestinians report not having seen footage of Hamas’s atrocities, with 61% relying on Al-Jazeera for news.
Mace’s bill directly addresses loopholes in current immigration policy that could allow dangerous individuals into the U.S. in the name of empathy. The No Amnesty for Hamas Sympathizers Act draws a firm line—ensuring national security comes first.
