U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, Chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, announced that the committee has voted 11-10 to advance the Fiscal Year 2025 Senate budget resolution to the floor. This resolution is intended as a framework for a reconciliation bill focused on border security, military enhancement, and energy independence.
Graham stated, "Today we took a significant step to passing the most transformative border security bill in American history. The reconciliation bill will also increase defense capability and boost energy independence."
He emphasized that those seeking enhanced border security can expect progress soon: "To those who want a more secure border, help is on the way. We have started the process that will give President Trump’s team the money they need to secure the border and to deliver on our promises." He noted that Senate Republicans were informed by the Trump Administration about funding shortages at ICE.
The resolution includes provisions for $150 billion in defense spending during what Graham described as "one of the most dangerous times in world history," along with forthcoming energy reforms. These initiatives are planned to be fully funded through cuts in other programs.
"By sending this resolution to the floor, the Senate Budget Committee has started the process of delivering the resources that President Trump’s team needs to implement his agenda," Graham added.
Graham expressed gratitude towards his Republican colleagues for their discipline and acknowledged his Democratic colleagues' professionalism during discussions: "Finally, I appreciate the discipline of my Republican colleagues on the committee for holding firm. I also appreciate the professionalism displayed by my Democratic colleagues on the committee as they passionately presented their point of view."
He concluded by stating that today's vote is an important step toward enhancing America's safety and prosperity.
