Congresswoman Nancy Mace has reintroduced the No Funds for Fascists Act. The legislation aims to prevent U.S. taxpayer money from being allocated to foreign governments that restrict free speech and pressure media platforms to suppress dissent.

"History proves that when free speech dies, democracy follows," stated Rep. Nancy Mace. She criticized actions in countries like the UK and Germany, where individuals face legal consequences for "offensive" social media posts, and Brazil, where the Supreme Court is allegedly silencing critics of the government. "This is Orwellian madness, and American taxpayers have no business funding it," she added.

The proposed act would prohibit U.S. foreign economic assistance from going to any government deemed by the Secretary of State as violating free speech protections outlined in the U.S. Constitution. In 2023, the United States provided $15 million in aid to Germany, a country where authorities reportedly conduct home raids over online insults. In the UK, police are arresting individuals for so-called “offensive” posts on social media platforms. In Brazil, Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes is accused of censoring political critics and controlling online opinions.

The bill seeks to ensure that American tax dollars do not support regimes that stifle dissent.
