The City of Charleston's Office of Resilience & Sustainability is organizing a series of open houses to inform residents about water-related issues and the city's flood mitigation efforts. This initiative aims to educate the community on water management and conservation strategies that will affect neighborhoods directly.

The events will allow participants to learn about the city's flood management strategies, including the Water Plan and the Basin Flood Action Program. Attendees will be able to identify their stormwater management projects through interactive information tables and floor maps. Additionally, the sessions will introduce innovative solutions for water challenges both on a local and city-wide scale.

Residents are encouraged to attend and engage with community organizations, environmental experts, and city leaders to discuss Charleston's water future. The events provide a platform to raise questions and share perspectives, ensuring that efforts align with neighborhood benefits.

The open houses are scheduled as follows: West Ashley at Porter Gaud on May 6th, James Island at Lowcountry Senior Center on May 7th, Peninsula at Main Library on May 19th, Daniel Island at Daniel Island Recreation Center on May 28th, and Johns Island at Haut Gap Middle School on May 29th, each from 4:30 pm to 7:30 pm.

The city has partnered with various entities to enhance the events' effectiveness. Partners include the City of Charleston departments, the Army Corps of Engineers-Charleston District, Berkeley County, Charleston County, the James Island Public Service District, the Coastal Conservation League, Charleston Waterkeeper, The Nature Conservancy, the South Carolina Aquarium, the South Carolina Sea Grant, the Historic Charleston Foundation, among others.
