Charleston Southern University’s men’s basketball team lost to Longwood University in a double-overtime game on Saturday, with the final score 107–96. The match was held at Charleston Southern and marked the second overtime contest between the two teams this season. Their previous meeting on January 23 also went into overtime, with Longwood winning 81–79.
The Buccaneers led by as many as 12 points at halftime, holding a 40–28 advantage. However, Longwood closed the gap in the second half and forced overtime after both teams exchanged leads in the final minutes of regulation. A’lahn Sumler played a significant role for Charleston Southern, scoring 29 points, collecting 11 rebounds, and recording 10 assists for what was described as “the first CSU triple-double since Phlandrous Fleming Jr. in March of 2020.”
Six Charleston Southern players scored nine or more points: A’lahn Sumler (29), Lase Olalere (17), Jacob Taylor (12), Nate Brafford (11), Jesse Hafemeister (9), and Armari Carraway (9). Olalere set a new career-high with his 17 points.
Three Buccaneers—Nate Brafford (43 minutes), Jesse Hafemeister (42 minutes), and A’lahn Sumler (41 minutes)—each played over forty minutes for the first time since January 15, 2025.
The next game for Charleston Southern will be against Winthrop University on Thursday, February 26. This matchup will be their last home game of the season and is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m., broadcast on ESPN+. The event will also serve as Senior Night for the program.
