Charleston Southern University’s men’s basketball team was defeated by Presbyterian College 87–83 in a midweek game on Wednesday night. The contest marked CSU’s first appearance after a week-long break, with the tip-off taking place at 7:00 p.m.
During the first half, Brycen Blaine reached double digits in scoring within 18 minutes, contributing 11 of Charleston Southern’s 29 points. Both Reis Jones and Lase Olalere accumulated two fouls each in the opening period. While CSU managed to shoot 41 percent from the field, Presbyterian demonstrated its offensive efficiency by shooting 54 percent in the first half and maintaining a 52 percent shooting average in Big South Conference play.
Charleston Southern narrowed the deficit several times during the second half. Consecutive baskets from A’lahn Sumler and Reis Jones reduced Presbyterian’s lead to seven points (40–33), and another score by Sumler brought CSU within six points (54–48). Despite a late effort that trimmed the margin to three, Charleston Southern was unable to overtake Presbyterian, who secured an 87–83 win on their home court.
Trent Coleman returned to action for CSU after not playing since December 21 against Furman. He logged 12 minutes, scored seven points, and collected six rebounds. A’lahn Sumler achieved his fourth game with at least 20 points in just six conference appearances this season, finishing with a team-high of 26 points on Wednesday night. Brycen Blaine added support across multiple categories with a final tally of 16 points, seven rebounds, and six assists.
Charleston Southern will continue its road schedule with an upcoming game at Longwood University on January 24. The match is set for a noon start and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
